Manhunt on for biker killer in Quiapo road rage

ROAD RAGE: The body of Mark Vincent Garalde is slumped next to his bicycle after he was shot dead by the driver of the car that bumped him along P. Casal street in Quiapo, Manila the other night. Video grabs from CCTV footage show the fistfight before the driver got his gun from the car and shot Geralde twice.

MANILA, Philippines – Police are looking for the driver who shot dead a biker with whom he had traded blows after an apparent road rage incident in Quiapo, Manila Monday night.

The incident was caught on CCTV. A stray bullet injured an 18-year-old girl near the crime scene, investigators said, but it was not clear if the bullet came from the gun fired by the suspect.

The fatality, identified as Mark Vincent Garalde, was on a bicycle along the southbound lane of P. Casal at around 9:30 p.m. when a red Hyundai Eon (conduction sticker MO-3745) blocked him and confronted him for still unknown reasons, SP02 Charles Duran said.

Based on the CCTV footage, Garalde and the suspect later came to blows for more than a minute until Garalde managed to headlock the suspect.

The victim released the suspect, walked toward his bike beside the car and peered into the passenger side window of the vehicle as if talking to someone.

As Garalde walked away with his bicycle, the suspect – now carrying a gun – got out of his car and walked casually toward the biker.

The man shot him once in the head and fired four more shots at the victim when he was already slumped on the pavement. The suspect sped away towards Ayala Bridge.

A police source identified the suspect as Vhon Tanto. Police recovered five spent shells from a caliber .45 pistol at the scene.

In critical condition at the Mary Chiles Hospital for a bullet wound was Rocel Bondoc. She was hit by a stray bullet in front of her house, according to MPD-homicide chief Senior Insp. Rommel Anicete.
